Phonetics Lab collaboration with the Bureau of Ghana Languages
The Bureau of Ghana Languages hosted a ceremony on December 13th, 2024 to officially welcome collaboration with the Phonetics Lab. The ceremony was attended by the Director of the Phonetics Lab, Assoc. Prof Jason Shaw (seated center), the Acting Director of the Bureau Ghana Languages, Mr. Enoch Adibuer (standing right), former Yale student, Mr. Simon Charwey (standing second from left) as well as tribal and government dignitaries, including, representing the Dangme tribes, his Royal Majesty Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku II (seated left) and Dr. Regina O. Caesar (seated right). The welcome was chaired by the Hon. Minister of the Ghana Ministry of Tourism and Culture, which overseas the Bureau of Ghana Languages. The first project planned for collaboration is an Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA) study of the Dangme language, which will be the first study acquiring EMA data in Africa.
